If you are asking about an impossible mission to do, the answer is here. Yes! Exactly. You cannot please everyone. No matter how hard you try to do it, you will only experience endless failure.

As a person, of course we want to be liked by people around us. It will give a sense of pride if many people like us. It feels like we have more value because that value comes from each person’s point of view. So the more people like us, the more we will think that the higher our value is.

But is it true that pleasing others is the main goal in social life? On the other hand, it was previously mentioned that it is an impossible mission. So what if we cannot please the people around us? The answer is that’s okay!

There are several reasons why we do not need to please others:

1. You have right to decide

The most common effort to make other people happy and like us is to follow the wishes of them. The one who seeks recognition from others will try to grant all requests even though it is not in accordance with what he/she wants. Even when it comes to deciding something related to themselves, they will still think highly of other people’s suggestions. The thing to emphasize here is that you have the right to decide. Never change your decision just to please other people, especially if it is something turns against you.

2. People will always have their opinions

Whatever you do, whether it is related to other people or even your own problems, people will definitely have their own point of view and will end up with erroneous opinions. Imagine if you keep trying to please other people by heeding all their advices. If there are five people with different suggestions, then of course you will not be able to fulfil all of them, right?

3. It is okay to be different, you are unique

You may have felt strange because what you like is very different from what the people around you like. Or you were asked to join a group but you refused because you did not feel like being in that group. None of these are your fault. Apart from having the right to decide, you also have to be able to emphasize to yourself that your difference with other people is your own uniqueness. So it is okay to keep your uniqueness even if it does not match the others’ expectations.

Making other people happy is a virtue. But remember that we are not responsible for other people’s happiness. We also have to be able to listen and respect ourselves. So, do well to others according to your capacity because you can never please everyone and that is okay.
