You may have found your house in a very messy condition. Every things are everywhere. You’ve taken the whole day to tidy it up but still they will just pile on top of each other and fill the entire room in your house. Until you start thinking that you do not really need all that stuff. There are even some that you never use anymore. Then what should you do? If you find yourself in this situation, then you could say that you need a new lifestyle called minimalism.

Minimalism is defined as a style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity. Caleb Backe, a certified health and wellness expert for Maple Holistics, believes that all minimalists intentionally focus on what really matters. For some, this means eliminating the ‘stuff’ that does not make them happy. Stephanie Seferian, the host of The Sustainable Minimalists podcast, also said, “Minimalism is the intentional choice to live with less.”

Minimalists believe that this lifestyle provides benefits for them, such as:

1. There is room for more important things. When you start getting rid of the things that fill your closet, there will be enough space to store only the important things. Items that actually provide useful benefits for you.

2. Save more money. Minimalism not only gets rid of things that already exist (but does not provide significant benefits), but also reduces your shopping list. When it is reduced, then of course you can save more money.

3. Reduce stress. By having a few items, you can easily find the items you need. You will also have less risk of losing them. In addition, of course you can do various activities comfortably.

Although minimalist lifestyle provides benefits, sometimes it is sadly difficult for some people to do. If you are one of them, maybe you can start a minimalist life with these following steps:

1. Get rid of things that are no longer used. Remember, less is more. Having a few useful things to support your needs is better than having a lot of useless things.

2. Focus on your needs. Many people buy things just because of their desires without considering what they are for. So from now on, you can only buy what you really need.

3. Set your priorities. If you feel you need a lot of things, you do not really need to buy everything right away. You can discuss with yourself to think about which items are urgent by determining the priority scale.

4. Slow living. Enjoy the moment in life that is in progress. There are many things for which you can be grateful. You do not need to be jealous of your friends who collect lots of bags. You also do not need to keep up with technological developments by buying new smartphones regularly.

Those are steps you can do to get the benefits from a minimalist lifestyle. Many things do not necessarily make you happy. In fact, living surrounded by something that benefits you is what makes you more meaningful.
