How To Deal With Burnout
Stress symptoms are very common for many people, but if they happen continuously in a long period of time, they can lead you to burnout. Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest and motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place.
Causes of burnout
Burnout mostly come from an overtime job. Anyone who feels overworked is at risk for burnout. It can be office worker who still have to work on the weekends and hardly ever have any holidays throughout the year, or it can also be stay-at-home mom who takes care of the kids, housework, and other household matters.
But burnout is not only caused by stressful and overtime work. There are also other factors such as an unhealthy lifestyle and a lot of responsibilities you hold. This situation can be worse if you work overtime, eat irregularly and do not get enough sleep. A person’s personality can also be very influential. People who like to overthink have a tendency to feel burnout because they think a lot about many things that may not be important.
How to deal with burnout
You may actually have noticed when you felt burnout. The more you push yourself, the worse the stress level you will get. You will feel exhausted, more emotional and suffer from a bad physical condition.
There are at least a few things you can try to deal with burnout:
1. Pay attention to yourself, especially your body and mind. There is a time when we need to pay attention to the condition of our bodies and minds. Aware of the signals when we really need to take a break. Do not let our ignorance lead to worse conditions.
2. Get support from others. When you feel burnout, you can ask other people to help you. For instance if you have many works to be done, you may ask your colleagues for a hand. Or if you have a lot of thoughts, you can ask your parents or a good friend to listen to your story or your problem.
3. Take some rest. Eat regularly and get enough sleep. Or rest does not always mean you have to stay quiet in your room. You may take leave and go on vacation since you could be burnout because you keep doing the same things repeatedly, so you just need a new atmosphere.
Many things can be the reason why you feel burnout, but there are actually many ways to prevent it. Although sometimes it is hard to avoid, but we can do our best so it will not bring any bad impact on us.
