At the beginning of this year, even before the turn of it, some of us may have made resolutions. Yet there are also those who might just want to make. It doesn’t really matter when you make your resolutions, because the most important thing in a resolution is to make it happen.

Apart from SMART resolution, there is one other thing that is more basic and we cannot take lightly to achieve our desired goals, it is knowing ourselves. Resolutions that we make based on what emerges from within us will be easier to realize than resolutions that are made only based on trends or following other people’s ways.

Therefore, this article provides some steps to get to know ourselves better in order to achieve our resolutions:

1. Have ‘tea time’ with yourself

This is the perfect time for you to have a little time with yourself. Sometimes what you need is peace from the hustle and bustle of daily activities that drain your time, energy and mind. With these calm and peace, it will be easier for you to know what is inside you.

2. Try to figure out what you are good at (and not good at)

Everyone has their own advantages and disadvantages. You can make an analysis of yourself about what things you can do easily, including things that require more effort to do.

3. Be honest with yourself

Accurate information about yourself can only be obtained if you are honest. Be honest with yourself about what you really want to be, the things you like and don’t like, or the goals in life that you really want to achieve without any outside influences.

4. Keep Exploring

The biggest obstacle is actually the fear that arises from within ourselves. We will definitely continue to put ourselves in safe and protected places and situations. Do something new. You may be afraid to fail but you will be much more afraid not to try.

5. Ask others’ feedback

If you find it difficult in the process of getting to know yourself, you can ask for advice from other people who are close to you and can provide information as it is. Yes, you don’t need to follow everything other people say, but of course there will be things that you may not detect yourself. There will be things that really need you to think twice.

Resolutions may be difficult to achieve because we don’t know ourselves well enough. We know that there are people who write resolutions only based on current trends or other people’s desires. This, of course, will affect the person’s efforts to achieve all the resolutions.
